Walmart Pay is rolling out to new locations

Walmart will soon launch its mobile payments service in Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi and all locations by the end of summer after seeing positive results from Walmart Pay, with more than 80 percent of transactions coming from repeat users.

Users are now able to use their mobile devices within Walmart’s mobile application to pay for purchases at bricks-and-mortar locations in Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi through the Walmart Pay feature. As mobile payments become more accepted by consumers, bigger plays are coming onto the scene but Walmart continues to corner the market by rolling out to new areas and will see a chain-wide rollout before the fall.

“We are always looking to learn from our customers and associates,” said Molly Blakeman, spokeswoman at Walmart. “They have offered some great feedback as to how we can improve and build upon Walmart Pay.

“One of the biggest pieces of feedback we’ve received is that customers like the simplicity of the service, we think there is real power in that,” she said. “We do not have anything to share quite yet, but I can tell you that when customers use Walmart Pay, they like it and continue to use it.

“In fact, more than 80 percent of transactions come from repeat users. We all be chain wide with the service this summer.”

Walmart Pay has been slowly making its way throughout the United States, with new markets adopting the mobile payments system more and more, with the latest being Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. As consumers are adapting to mobile payments services, the competition continues to grow.

In-store payments
The retailer is not losing ground to rivals and is seeing positive results, with more than 80 percent of Walmart Pay transactions deriving from repeat users. By the end of summer, all Walmart locations will be equipped with the mobile pay feature, furthering its position as a leading contender.

Many customers have noted that Walmart Pay provides a convenient checkout method and the interface is easy to use, which is a key factor in mobile payment programs. The more difficult mobile payment services are, the more likely customers will turn away from the service.

With so many competitors out there, it is important that developers create the most streamlined method of checkout.

Users with any credit card or Walmart gift card will be able to pay through Walmart Pay. To pay in-store with Walmart Pay, users need to open the feature within its app and scan the bar code provided by the register at checkout.

Mobile pay
Similarly, Shopify and Moovweb were two of the digital commerce providers potentially bringing Apple Pay to hundreds of thousands of merchants’ Web sites in a move that could increase online sales, due to the technology’s enhanced security (see more).

Shell Oil Company was the latest to adopt Chase Pay in a long-term agreement that brings mobile payments to its pumps, boosting convenience for consumers while promoting mobile rewards signups (see more).

“We know our customers want to save not just money, but also time,” Ms. Blakeman said. “That is why we are rolling out Walmart Pay – a safe, easy and convenient way for customers to pay with their smartphones in our stores.

“Built with the goal of improving how customers check out and dramatically expanding mobile payment access, Walmart Pay is like no other mobile payment solution available today,” she said. “With Walmart Pay, Walmart becomes the only retailer to offer its own payment solution that works with any iOS or Android device, at any checkout lane, and with any major credit, debit, pre-paid or Walmart gift card – all through the Walmart mobile app, a tool we see becoming our customers’ remote control to their shopping trip.”
