Ticketmaster locks in music fans via BlackBerry appBy
Ticketmaster is reaching out to its on-the-go music fans by letting them buy and search for tickets via an upgraded BlackBerry application.
The app, available in BlackBerry’s Beta Zone, lets users buy tickets on their handsets and uses geo-tracking to search nearby events and venues. The app is available for free download.
The release of the BlackBerry Ticketmaster app builds on the company’s reputation as the go-to ticket source for concert goers.
Users can search for venues and events in a couple ways – by either searching by artist name, event or venue.
GPS tools let consumers create localized searches so they only see results that are relevant to them.
Users can also search by date with features including in the next weekend, the next 90 days and search by a customized date field.
The app works with BlackBerry devices by synching with the phone’s calendar. Ticketmaster customers who buy tickets via their mobile devices can add the event to their calendar.
Users can also store their Ticketmaster login information. After logging in, Ticketmaster users can access stored information on their favorite bands, venues and events.
Music fans can access artist reviews, add the artist into their favorites and review the price and seat.
Similar to the Ticketmaster Web site, there is a time limit when ordering tickets on the Ticketmaster app.
Ticketmaster is only one example of an entertainment company that has seen an increased need for on-the-go consumers to buy tickets on their mobile devices.
For example, StubHub recently rolled out a Windows Phone app to reach their users on every possible platform.
Additionally, in June an executive from Live Nation said the company’s mobile apps have helped increase fan engagement and drive revenue. (see story).
