Apple execs refused again this week to give any concrete sales statistics for its new Apple Watch, beyond platitudes, and saying that sales exceeded expectations. But a new report by market research firm Strategy Analytics has an estimate, and it’s higher than many analysts had assumed.

McDonald’s falls behind competitors in app wars
In 2013, McDonald’s Corp. described a future where customers could order Big Macs on a smartphone. Almost two years later that vision remains far off, even though fast-food apps have become commonplace in much of the industry. While McDonald’s will test mobile ordering in the U.S. next year, the technology may not be widely available in 2016, a spokeswoman said.

Google Maps’ new timeline is a walk down memory lane
Google Inc. yesterday rolled out a new Google Maps feature that will either help you remember your favorite places or creep you out. Google’s “Your Timeline” will show all the places you’ve been on any day you choose from your past.

Yahoo’s mixed results reflect costs of attracting new users
Yahoo beat Wall Street’s low expectations for its sales but missed earnings projections during a second-quarter financial report Tuesday. Yahoo reported a loss of $21.6 million, or 2 cents per share, in large part because it spent more than $200 million on partnerships to drive more users to click on its websites in the quarter that ended June 30.
