Games, music, social networking dominating apps space: skyrockit

Entertainment categories such as mobile gaming, music and social networking are dominating the applications space, according to skyrockit’s newest executive.

The mobile entertainment agency announced the addition of Holly Brousseau to the skyrockit team as senior vice president of production and client services responsible for the company’s client services, creative production and product development departments. She will oversee skyrockit’s product development cycle.

Ms. Brousseau has more than 13 years of experience at agencies and companies such as Razorfish, Ogilvy Interactive, EVB and EDS. Her client list has included Intel, Visa, Saab, Cisco, Lucas Arts and LeapFrog.

Mobile Marketer’s Dan Butcher interviewed Ms. Brousseau. Here is what she had to say:

What is the current state of mobile content, entertainment and branded mobile apps in the U.S.? And globally?
Smartphone growth increases quarter-over-quarter and smartphone users download apps twice as often as feature phone users.

Currently, Apple is leading the market, but Android is not far behind.

Entertainment categories such as games, music and social networking lead the app categories list.

What does all this mean? Users will become more savvy about technology adoption on these devices and integrate them as part of their daily lives more and more.

While entertainment is key, users will also be looking for ways to use their smartphones, iPads, netbooks and other mobile devices to improve their connectivity and productivity.

The key to breaking into this market is an understanding of technology, brands and consumers, and the tenacity to push innovation forward—even in the face of making mistakes.

There is no guidebook for this adventure, which is what makes it challenging and exciting for marketers.

Our main focus at skyrockit is helping marketers navigate this new landscape and push their brands and messages forward.

What are your responsibilities in your new role as senior vice president of production and client services? What is your mandate?
My responsibilities are to manage the company’s client services, creative production and product development efforts.

I have responsibility to our clients to ensure their challenges are met with insightful strategic recommendations, creative and innovative ideas and best-in-class end-products—whether that is a mobile app, Web site or branded television entertainment.

I am also responsible for pushing forward the company’s efforts to develop product platforms that would assist our clients in bringing apps to market quickly.

We have been very successful with our Romplr platform and I am excited to be a part of what comes next for us.

What is skyrockit’s roadmap for growth?
Our roadmap is simple: deliver, innovate, grow and dominate.

This translates to delivering on the client work at hand, producing innovating ideas for our clients and for our internal product set, growing our client list and our product base and dominating the industry as the agency who understands that the future of digital has moved beyond the Web browser and what we consider to be bounded forms of advertising.

It is critical to reach consumers on the device most appropriate for the action you wish to incite and create a lasting connection between them and the brand.
