Zillow provides data on 85 million properties with new app

zillow-1Zillow has introduced an Android application giving consumers data on 95 million properties to help them find their dream home.

The application pinpoints a location and updates consumers as they walk or drive through a neighborhood. Consumers can also search homes by voice.

“It is clear to us that real estate is inherently mobile, and the mobile experience will continue to grow and be a bigger part of our business,” Jill Simmons, a spokeswoman for Zillow, Seattle.

“Already, more than 2 million homes are viewed each month on our iPhone app alone,” she said. “That’s why it’s important for us to expand to other platforms, and as the No. 2 smartphone OS, Android was the natural next step.” 

Zillow is an online real estate marketplace where homeowners, buyers, sellers, renters, real estate agents and mortgage professionals find and share information about homes and mortgages.

Find a home here
The application uses GPS technology to find and follow users on an aerial map, which displays homes for sale, homes for rent and recently-sold data on the homes around them.

Consumers can also search for homes even if they are not nearby.

Users can use the voice search capabilities by saying an address, neighborhood, ZIP code, or city – the application takes the user there on the map.

“Because Zillow has data and information on all homes, not just those for sale or for rent, this app is useful for people who are in all stages of life – whether they are renting, deciding whether to rent or buy, shopping for a home today, or just dreaming about home ownership,’ Ms. Simmons said.

“The current version of the app is not built to include advertising,” she said. “We see lots of opportunity for monetization with the Zillow Android App in the future, and will at one point add advertising here.”

Mobile homes
Additionally there are several features which include images of homes using Google Street View, multiple photos, home details and contact information on homes for sale, for rent or listed as “make me move,” letting home shoppers peek inside home listings and call or email agents, owners and landlords right from the application.

Users can filter searches by price, beds, baths and more, search by monthly payment, save their searches, get notified when new results come in, email homes to a friend, share homes on Facebook and Twitter and view saved searches from their favorites tab.

“There is a lot of opportunity to work with a variety of platforms,” Ms. Simmons said. “As always, we’ll follow the consumers’ lead to help us prioritize what we develop next, based on usage.”
