Yogurtland spices up Looney Tunes summer promotion with QR codes

Frozen yogurt chain Yogurtland is releasing its next Looney Tunes-inspired flavor in its summer series and letting consumers earn free yogurt via the company’s mobile application and QR codes.

Yogurtland partnered with Warner Bros. Consumer Products for this summer campaign, which will introduce a total of six frozen yogurt and sorbet flavors and toppings inspired by Looney Tunes characters. Consumers can earn free yogurt by scanning each character’s QR codes with Yogurtland’s mobile app.

“Since the launch of the mobile app earlier this year, we’ve integrated this tool into our promotional and marketing efforts, including QR codes for our Looney Tunes summer Flavors with Character promotion,” said Charlotte Lucich, director of marketing at Yogurtland, Irvine, CA.

“It is also a fun way for our fans to connect with the promotion,” she said. “It also allows our fans to continue their Yogurtland experience beyond store.

“QR codes provide an easy way for guests to record their Yogurtland visit and for Yogurtland to share more information. QR codes also bring attention to the promotion. Not only with the POP but also because other Yogurtland fans see people scanning the codes and want to see what’s going on.”

The newest flavor in the Looney Tunes summer series is Lemon Cream Cookie Frozen Yogurt which is inspired by Tweety bird. The flavor will be available in stores on August 5 for a limited time.

Other flavors that have already been released for the promotion include Carrot Cake frozen yogurt for Bugs Bunny, Decadent Dark Chocolate Orange frozen yogurt for Daffy Duck and Kosmic Fruit Kaboom Sorbet for Marvin the Martian.

Yogurtland will continue to release a new flavor every two weeks until September 15. Each flavor also has its own collectible spoon and cup.

Yogurtland is adding a mobile component to the promotion by offering free yogurt to fans that scan a certain number of character QR codes.

If consumers scan four character codes, they will earn four ounces of free yogurt. If they scan all six codes, they will get six ounces.

To scan the QR codes, consumers must download Yogurtland’s mobile app, which is available for free in Apple’s App Store and Google Play.

Yogurtland released its mobile app this past March as part of a Flavor Quest promotion that featured flavors from around the world (see story).

In addition to being able to scan in-store QR codes, the app also lets users find the nearest store location and see which flavors are offered at specific stores.

The Flavor Finder feature on the app provides real-time information about which flavors are being served at different Yogurtland shops.

The app also provides nutritional information about flavors.

“People who love Yogurtland love to share their experiences with their friends,” Ms. Lucich said.

“They do that through social sites and their smartphone is vitally important to that connection,” she said. “Digital programs help Yogurtland connect better with our guests.”
