Yellow Pages redesigns mobile app to offer location-based deals

The application was designed by AT&T Interactive specifically for the Android platform. The updated application features nearby deals and personalization and sharing features.

“As consumers rely on new mediums to find and connect with businesses, we are focused on evolving and building a YP search experience that is accessible to users across the platforms they use most,” said Deann Mayeda, spokeswoman for AT&T Interactive, Glendale, CA.

“The Android platform specifically is one that we’re investing in so that the growing Android community has access to our YP app and its new features like faster access to finding nearby deals,” she said.

Yellow Pages helps users find business listings, phone numbers, addresses, maps and driving directions.

AT&T Interactive, a subsidiary of AT&T Inc., creates local search products that encourage consumers to discover and engage with local businesses across three screens – online, mobile, and TV.

Local deals galore
Users can browse thousands of nearby coupons, specials and discounts in the new deals section.

Additionally, users have access to a range of money-saving offers that do not require a purchase or check-in.

Users can scan the location-aware home screen to see local weather, nearby deals and local events in personally-selected categories, as well as save deals, favorite businesses and events in the my stuff section.

“The new app features support our goal of giving consumers more ways to discover local businesses and make a decision on where to shop, eat, play – while delivering motivated customers to merchants’ doorsteps.”  Ms. Mayeda said. “The new deals section is just one example of the new app features.

“AT&T Interactive creates a YP local search experience across the platforms that consumers use most – and there is certainly a quickly growing Android community,” she said. “The YP app is not new to the Android platform, however the new version 3.0 of the app introduces a completely new user interface packed with local weather, quick access to local deals, personally-selected local event categories among other new features.

“We believe that this better positions us to further growth in 2011.”

Continual deals
Consumers can access deals across the Yellow Pages product portfolio including its Web site, mobile-optimized site and applications.

Additional application features let users browse ratings and reviews by locals, access video profiles and browse and search local events.

“Local deals is a rapidly growing opportunity that certainly has the potential to give advertisers a stronger presence among consumers who are looking for local information while creating  advertising value that drive transactions,” Ms. Mayeda said.

“In 2011, expect to see much more from AT&T Interactive in the deals marketplace,” she said. “We are focused on driving motivated consumers to merchants’ doorsteps with unique and relevant deals that are useful every day.”
