Yahoo caters to affluent investors with MarketDash iPad app

Yahoo Inc. is courting an investment-savvy affluent demographic with the Yahoo Finance Marketplace featuring the ad-supported MarketDash application for the Apple iPad.

Yahoo Finance Marketplace lets consumers track their investments, follow personally relevant companies and read financial news stories on the iPad. Fidelity Investments is the launch sponsor of the MarketDash app.

“With so many new device form factors on the market, the launch of MarketDash provides users with a tablet-based experience that provides an intuitive and rich design that can be used in both portrait and landscape displays on the iPad,” said Aaron Zitzer, director of product management at Yahoo Finance, Sunnyvale, CA.

“The innovative multi-touch user interface makes it easy for investors to find real-time market data and editorial content and stay abreast of their investments while on the go,” he said.

Yahoo Finance for iPad is available for free from the App Store on iPad.

The application delivers a centralized portfolio watch list that syncs with desktop computers, as well as iPhone and Android-based phones.

The Yahoo Finance iPad application offers an additional platform for companies to engage with consumers through advertising.

The inaugural advertiser on Marketplace is Fidelity Investments.

The primary promotions are running on the Yahoo Finance homepage and on the Yahoo homepage for visitors on the iPad.

This is a continuation of the relationship between the two companies, which includes mobile advertising and multiple campaigns.

Yahoo provides opportunities for advertisers to take advantage of the native features of the iPad to reach targeted consumers.

The Yahoo Finance application offers a multi-touch user interface letting investors find real-time market data and editorial content and stay abreast of their investments while on the go.

The applicatoin feature market data, letting users research and track investments and companies using interactive search pages, featuring real-time quotes and key statistics.

In-app charts include pinch, expand and scroll capabilities, timeline features and the ability to compare multiple stocks on one interactive screen.

The app aggregates news headlines and editorial content from Yahoo contributors and partners such as the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Reuters and The Financial Times.

Users can create personally relevant watch lists and get access to their portfolio stored on Yahoo Finance.

“MarketDash is designed specifically for investors who want to access real-time stock prices, news and charts from Yahoo Finance, the No. 1 finance site on the Internet, on their iPads,” Mr. Zitzer said.
