Telecharge launches mobile ticketing site

The site is powered by Usablenet and is accessible from any Web-enabled phone. It offers users the full functionality of the Telecharge Web site, including the ability to find event information and buy tickets anytime and anywhere.

“We wanted people to be able to buy tickets whenever the mood strikes them, walking down the streets of New York City, or when they’re on their commuter trains going to work,” said Jennifer Tattenbaum, interactive services director at Telecharge, New York. “They see advertisements in all of these places such as buses and billboards and these ads might inspire them to make a purchase.

“If they have to wait until they get back home or to their office to log onto our site, we might lose the impulse buyer, or a customer might just forget about that Broadway show they wanted to see and move on to other things,” she said.

Telecharge.com is the official ticketing agency for most of New York City’s theaters.

Users can access the site by visiting http://www.telecharge.com using their mobile phone.

Consumers are automatically redirected to a mobile-friendly view of the site. The mobile-optimized site can also be seen from any computer by going to http://mobile.telecharge.com.

Usablenet Mobile supports more than 50 sites with mobile commerce capabilities, all experiencing significant growth because people are naturally transferring their Web behavior to their mobile phones, including shopping.

Usablenet clients include Victoria’s Secret, Nissan, Infiniti and Sears.

The Telecharge mobile site streamlines information for on-the-go convenience, allowing users to search and browse events by city, venue or show title, select theater seats, buy tickets, look up existing orders and find theater locations, box office hours and contact information.

“As usual, our strategy was to extend the Web site to mobile, but with Telecharge in particular, because they cater a lot to tourists visiting New York City, mobile was targeting that audience perfectly for their needs,” said Jason Taylor, vice president of mobile products at Usablenet, New York.

“Tourists always have access to [mobile] phones all the time, but they rarely have access to the Internet while traveling for pleasure,” he said. “Telecharge’s mobile site allows visitors to browse and purchase tickets and see last-minute deals right from their phones, where normally they would have to find an Internet cafe or business center or stand in long lines for Broadway tickets.”
