Target, Best Buy reward consumers during holiday season via mobile app

Target, Best Buy and Macy’s are among the retailers participating in shopkick’s The 12 Days of Kickmas campaign, rewarding mobile shoppers for simply visiting their stores.

Consumers who walk into the participating stores will be entered into the sweepstakes to win one of 12 progressive daily prize packages. American Eagle Outfitters, Sports Authority, Simon Malls and Wet Seal are also participating in the mobile campaign.

“Shopkick’s mission is to make shopping more fun and rewarding by turning stores into interactive worlds, and the 12 Days of Kickmas does exactly that,” said Cyriac Roeding, cofounder/CEO of shopkick, San Francisco.

“We know that people are doing more shopping this time of year, and even if they’re browsing without buying, they’ve got the opportunity to enter this sweepstakes simply for visiting shopkick’s partner retailers – for retail partners, this can bring additional foot traffic,” he said. “The mobile phone is the only device people routinely take with them when out shopping, and with shopkick, it has the ability to serve as a cross-retailer, cross-brand rewards program, full of rewards, discounts and other fun goodies.

“No other interactive device has the ability to change the shopping experience like the mobile phone can – so in this case, mobile isn’t just part of the promotion, it is the promotion.”

Mobile kick
The shopkick application detects the shopkick signal, emitted from a device located in each participating store, and delivers rewards called kickbucks to each user when they walk into participating stores.

Consumers can download the shopkick application and everytime they walk into participating stores, they will receive 50 entries to the sweepstakes, as well as any kickbucks that the retailer rewards them.

Additionally, single entries are accumulated with GPS-based check-ins.

The campaign kicks off Nov. 26 and ends on Dec. 24.

“Wouldn’t you want the chance to win some of the 31 million kickbucks?,” Mr. Roeding said. “Walking in to a store, as only shopkick can measure with its shopkick signal, grants you 50 entries in the prize draw.

“By the way, if you win the grand prize, you will have to rent a truck to carry home your 60” 3D flatscreen TV from Best Buy, and your new wardrobe from Macy’s, American Eagle and Wet Seal, and your new golf club set from Sports Authority,” he said. “And yes, the four months worth of groceries and the new living room furniture from Target on the way back.”

Several of the prizes that will be rewarded include:

• Twelve drums for drumming (Best Buy)
• Eleven denim jeggings (AE, Target, Wet Seal)
• Ten snowboards boarding (Sports Authority)
• Nine outfits dancing (AE, Macy’s, Target, Wet Seal, Simon malls)

“The sweepstakes is being promoted inside the app and in some cases, in stores with signage as well,” Mr. Roeding said.
