Sony Music Entertainment ramps up mobile content sales

Sony Music Entertainment has taken its catalog of full-length tracks, music videos, images and ringtones into the mobile space.

Mobile content from Sony performers is now available to Myxer’s community of more than 35 million music fans due to a recent agreement that covers the United States. As part of the deal, Sony Music artists will be able to make use of Myxer’s MobileStage, a customizable mobile Web site platform with fan-list management features, data analytics, messaging and other promotional opportunities.

Mobile Commerce Daily’s Dan Butcher interviewed Steve Spiro, vice president of marketing at Myxer, Deerfield Beach, FL. Here is what he had to say:

What’s the strategy behind adding Sony to Myxer?
Myxer’s goal is to make the largest and best collection of mobile entertainment and personalization offerings available to our consumers, regardless of what platform or carrier they may be on.

Sony has some of the top artists in the world, so we are thrilled to be able to offer content from such a great music company.

For Sony, they are striving to offer fans more ways to discover music and experiment with ways to connect their artists with their fans.

Myxer not only provides innovative technologies to accomplish this, but we bring a massive and receptive audience as well.

What challenges does this address for both Myxer and SME?
Myxer gives Sony Music Group access to more than 35 million passionate music fans.

Plus, Myxer has a long list of major advertisers that are interested in sponsoring some of the great artists in their catalog, so it becomes a major promotional vehicle that ties together the best of mobile and Web.

What artists are featured on Myxer?
Content will be added in the next 45-60 days. The two companies will be meeting before then to decide which artists will use MobileStage at the time or close to the time the actual content will be included in the Web and mobile catalog.

What is the range of price points?
Sony’s ringtone content sells for $2.99, while full-track track downloads will range from $0.99 – $1.99.

What are the calls-to-action?
Within a month, we will have the full-track store up and running, and once Sony’s content has been ingested, we will be directing people to buy the full tracks as well.

Myxer is also working with Sony to offer promotional programs that feature exclusive content. These will be announced at a later time.
