Skyline debuts mobile deposit slip

The company partnered with Mitek Systems to provide the mobile deposit application for more immediate banking. The application serves as a payment service for remote deposit customers.

“We have many clients whether they are credit unions or businesses – business agents, insurance agents – who may be on the road who say, ‘Hey, we love getting our money immediately with the Check 21 legislation. I get checks all the time, why should I wait until I get back to the scanner at the office or my headquarters? I can take a picture directly on my phone and get that check deposited right away,’” said Shai Z. Stern, co-chairman of Sklyline’s DirectFED Payment Solutions, Los Angeles.

“We’re really focused on businesses, not individuals,” he said. “For folks who are not using us for Check 21, now’s a great time to start.”

Skyline provides services for businesses ranging from multinationals to small enterprises, nonprofits, municipalities and all types of financial institutions.

Mitek Systems specializes in image analytics and mobile document capture applications.

Snap a check
Consumers initiate a mobile deposit session, key-in the deposit amount and snap a photo of the front and back of the check with their smartphone camera.

The technology formats the image, corrects any image distortions and prepares it for transmission.

“I think that businesses who are accepting checks on the road all the time—insurance agents, car delivery, real estate agents—this will enable them to get into mobile commerce,” Mr. Stern said.

The company hopes that the service will bring mobile merchant capture to a broader range of industries.

Mobile banking
In addition, the company claims that the service will let consumers and community banks compete with larger institutions.

In December ClairMail partnered with Mitek for mobile banking deposit capabilities.

The company integrated Mitek’s mobile deposit application into its mobile banking and payments platform (see story).

In addition to being compatible with Apple’s iPhone, the service can also be used with Research In Motion’s BlackBerry, as well as other smartphone devices.

“In Mitek we have chosen a partner with a proven track record of excellence in mobile deposit with a wealth of industry experience,” Mr. Stern said.
