SaleLocator extends LBS mobile sales app to Android users

July 1, 2011

SaleLocator has rolled out a location-based Android application to help bargain shoppers find sale items in retail stores nearby.

The company has extended the app after the success of its iPhone application. The SaleLocator app is available in Google’s Android Market for free download.

“Our mobile strategy is to offer consumers an easy, efficient way to find local retail sales wherever, whenever,” said Michael Falkson, cofounder/CEO of SaleLocator.

“The SaleLocator app provides bargain shoppers with an efficient, easy to use interface to search local in-store sales while on the go,” he said.

“For retailers – national brands and small businesses – our mobile platform provides additional mobile presence and a way to further promote their in store sales and drive traffic in stores.”

SaleLocator offers the largest collection of in-store sale information to help local bargain hunters find the best ongoing sales near them.

Mobile database
The mobile app lets consumers find in-store sales by searching by proximity, category, keyword or mall.

The application features more than 20 retail categories such as clothing and apparel, furniture and healthy and beauty.

Consumers can view detailed sale information and click on a sale for maps, driving directions, merchant contact information and when the offer expires.

“Android is one of the leading two mobile platforms and app stores,” Mr. Falkson said. “With Android activating 500,000 handsets a day, having an Android app will help us reach a significant number of new on-the-go bargain shoppers.

Social features
Consumers can share their sale finds with friends and family via email, Facebook and Twitter.

The app also features “My Sales” and “Sales Alerts” and lets consumers bookmark favorite sales and sign up for regular email updates and nearby sales.

“We have noticed some distinct differences in mobile shopping patterns versus the online shopping and search experience,” Mr. Falkson said. “While the mobile sessions are shorter, our iPhone app users visit SaleLocator more frequently – the median usage is three times per day – this is double the media usage of other apps in the Lifestyle category.

“We expect mobile shopping to continue to grow as more and more consumers move over to smartphones and get more comfortable with the mobile options available,” he said.
