August 19, 2010

donatePayPal has updated its iPhone application to let users donate to more than 23,000 charities, including The American Cancer Society, Save the Children and UNICEF.

The company recently submitted the application to Apple and is awaiting its response. The PayPal Mobile 2.5 application now has a donation feature included.

Users can donate to charities in the United States, Britain and Canada.

Several of the charities include Autism Speaks, Save the Children, BBC Children in Need, Cancer Research UK, Canadian Red Cross, American Red Cross, ASPCA: American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Food for the Poor.

By adding a donations feature to the application, PayPal is hoping to increase that percentage even more, per the company’s blog post.

The new features let users search for nearby charities and post their donation to Facebook.

Additionally, the application is available on Apple’s iPad and iPod touch.

Here is a screen grab of the application:

Earlier this month, PayPal announced that they are offering its San Jose, CA-based employees BlingTags, which let them make purchases throughout the company’s entire campus and at participating merchants.

The service lets PayPal employees fund Bling Nation purchases by linking the BlingTag to to a PayPal account (see story).

Additionally, in July, the company introduced a mobile version of its Express Checkout service that lets merchants offer the same PayPal experience for their on-the-go customers.

The Express Checkout service is available on the iPhone and Android 2.0 (see story).
