Nationwide brings renters insurance to millennials on the go

Insurance provider Nationwide is hoping to attract millennials by providing renters insurance on the go while users are apartment hunting through mobile.

To comply with the instant gratification mindset of consumers today, Nationwide has made renters insurance available via a mobile application in the hopes that the more accessible it is to find a policy, the more policies it will sell. Those looking for renters insurance can now instantly shop for a policy whenever they want, even while apartment hunting.

As consumers value more options to purchase our insurance products, we continue to explore new ways to meet their emerging needs,” said Mark Pizzi, president and chief operating officer for Nationwide’s direct and member solutions business. “Partnering with Sure provides a choice for obtaining renters insurance as a key component to the apartment shopping and living experience.

“We look forward to protecting what matters most to renters via this new distribution platform,” he said.

Nationwide renters insurance
Claiming to be the first on-demand insurance app in the United States, Nationwide has integrated with mobile insurance platform Sure to provide renters insurance. The mobile app allows users to browse various forms of insurance policies on their mobile devices.

Since renters insurance is not required and many renters look to save money where they can, the popularity of these types of policies is not widespread. Nationwide is looking to incite more customers of renters insurance through the app integration.

The Sure app will allow users looking for renters insurance to get a quote from Nationwide purchase a policy and even pay their premium in real time. Users will not have to leave the app to pay for and purchase the policies.

A large portion of renters in the U.S. is the millennial demographic, which has prompted Nationwide to attract the group via mobile, since it is the medium they are most comfortable with.

The app integration will first be available to consumers in Washington state and California, and hopefully lead to a “nationwide” Nationwide rollout.

Insurance innovation

The assistant, named Kate, lives in the Geico mobile app for iOS and soon Android as well. Kate can understand natural language and will assist customers make purchases and solve inquiries (see more).

Travelers Insurance attempted to onboard more customers for a digital portal that provides control over billing and policy documents with a new application and optimized Web site that also allow mobile access to ID cards.

Travelers is hoping to maintain homeostasis with its modern customers by allowing them complete control over their insurance policies and is urging them to sign up for its cross-channel MyTravelers platform (see more).
