Court rules Apple will not pay triple damages for infringing on university patent
The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s patent licensing body will not be able to extract triple damages from Apple as a jury weighs how much the iPhone maker must pay for using its microchip technology without permission, a U.S. judge ruled on Thursday.

Sony’s answer to Apple Pay is laying tracks for Asian expansion
While Sony Corp. is scaling back its global smartphone ambitions, the company still wants to contend with Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. on mobile payments in Asia. Its method for getting there is public transportation. Sony is trying to make its FeliCa contact-less payment technology as ubiquitous in the rest of Asia as it is on Japan’s railway network.

Twitter stock pops after Steve Ballmer tweets
Twitter’s stock popped this morning after former Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer appeared to tweet this surprising revelation last night, “good job @twitter,@twittermoments innovation, @jack Ceo, leaner, more focused, glad I bought four percent past few months.” The tweet is somewhat of a mystery: the account isn’t verified, seems to be new, and has only sent six tweets.
