Mobile Minutes: Flash issues; InMobi personalizes ads; Amazon buys AppThwack; Microsoft’s mobile commitment

Adobe Flash – that insecure, ubiquitous resource hog everyone hates to need – is under siege, again, and hopefully for the last time. The latest calls for its retirement come from some of the Internet’s most powerful players, but if the combined clattering of Facebook, Firefox, and a legion of unsatisfied users isn’t enough finally to put it in the ground, scroll down to see how to axe it from your devices yourself.
InMobi, the world’s largest independent mobile advertising platform, launched a discovery feature called Miip that aims to transform staid mobile advertising into a personalized, content-rich experience. The launch will keep InMobi, whose main rivals are search engine Google and social network Facebook in mobile advertising, in step with users who increasingly devour content through apps and social media feeds on their devices.
Amazon has bought a Portland startup called AppThwack, whose technology helps app developers test their software on a range of mobile devices. It will join Amazon Web Services, the Seattle company’s data hosting arm.
Despite rumors to the contrary, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says the company is not getting out of the mobile market. That was the concern of many after the tech giant announced last week it planned to restructure its mobile phone business and lay off more than 7,800 employees.
