MetroPCS offers customers mobile banking functionality

Firethorn’s Mobile Banking platform can now be downloaded for free by MetroPCS customers from the @Metro store.

“In general the strategy here is to give MetroPCS customers access to account information while on the go,” said Kelly Buday, director of marketing at Firethorn, Atlanta.

Dallas-based MetroPCS Communications, Inc. is a provider of unlimited wireless communications service for a flat-rate with no signed contract. As of June 30, 2009, MetroPCS had approximately 6.3 million subscribers.

Firethorn, a Qualcomm company, is a mobile commerce enabler.

As a result of Firethorn’s technology, Metro PCS customers will be able to view their bank and credit card balances and history, make transfers between their accounts, and pay their bills securely from their mobile phones using a single PIN.

Metro PCS customers can also check rewards information and review targeted, timely offers from their financial institutions as part of the application’s evolving mobile commerce capabilities.

“MetroPCS wants to give their customers increased functionality on their mobile phones,” Ms. Budday said. “We helped them do that.”
