GrubHub revamps Android app for hungry on-the-go consumers

GrubHub has rebuilt its Android application from the ground up to let diners order food from more than 5,000 restaurants in 13 cities.

Consumers can log-in to their existing accounts or create a new account using their mobile device. The app is available for free download in Google’s Android Market.

“Our mission at GrubHub is to help hungry diners find and order exactly what they are craving from the 6,000-plus network of restaurants on our site,” said Mike Evans, cofounder/CEO of GrubHub. “In addition, we work with restaurants to bring them more orders.

“GrubHub’s mobile strategy simplifies the connection between hungry diners on the go and restaurants,” he said. “We build our iPhone, Android, HTML5 and Tablet apps with the specific device in mind to give the best experience. 

“In addition, the rapidly evolving nature of these devices make them a fun sandbox environment to innovative ideas.”

GrubHub is a Web and mobile service that connects diners to restaurants and simplifies online ordering for delivery and carry-out.

The revamped Android app features more personalized functionality.

Consumers can use their smartphone’s GPS to find out who delivers to them.

Users can also view menus, reviews and ratings before placing an order. 

Additionally, consumers can search for restaurants that deliver in 13 major cities, including New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Oakland, Boston, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Philadelphia, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Denver and Boulder. 

“We think the new app will make it easier for our diners to order food from our restaurants on the go,” Mr. Evans said. “That’s the heart and soul of why we make updates on any platform.

“Android is particularly important to get right because of how rapidly it is growing,” he said.

Consumers can search for specific cuisines, restaurants, delivery hours, ratings to help narrow down their search.
In addition, the app saves their details, such as multiple addresses and credit card information to make the checkout-process more seamless.

Users can also view past orders and reorder with one tap.

“To celebrate the release of our revamped and vastly improved Android app, we are also offering our diners the opportunity to get a free Android phone with a 2 year service plan,” Mr. Evans said.

“We are communicating this offer through our email, consumer site and our social media channels on July 18,” he said. “We want everyone to experience the delight that comes with mobile happy eating.”
