July 20, 2011 is letting on-the-go consumers scour daily deal offerings via an Android application.

The app lets users browse, save and share deals on products such as consumer electronics and apparel. The company also has a mobile-optimized site and iPhone and iPod touch apps.

“The adoption and usage rates of smartphones, the Android platform and mobile applications that we see today mirrors that of the Internet not so long ago,” said Richard Moss, chief technology officer at, Huntsville, AL.

“As a leading online company, it’s essential to have a prominent mobile presence as well, whether via mobile Web, native apps, or in our case, both,” he said. is an online resource for discounted products, including electronics, apparel, entertainment and home goods.

The app aggregates more than 100 deals per day from 2,000 online retailers.

Consumers can browse offers and deals by a few different options, including product, category or keyword. They can also see the most recent deals under the new tab.

Users can also store and share their favorite deals using email or social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

To help streamline the coupon process, the app lets consumers search for coupons and track them through redemption.

When developing the app, wanted to find a way that most effectively communicated its content to mobile users, resulting in an Android app.

“ readers know that great deals don’t last long, and the dealnews Android app was a natural fit for consumers looking to stay connected and updated on the best online deals from the convenience of their Android devices,” Mr. Moss said.

Deal-seeking market
Before rolling out the dealnews Android app, the company also launched a Black Friday App last year during the holidays to target shoppers.

The app aggregated leaked deals from 60 companies and drove consumers to retailers’ Web sites with relevant offers, which is something they hope to accomplish with the Android app as well.

“The dealnews app allows us to stay connected with our core audience and also develop a relationship with potential consumers,” Mr. Moss said.

Although is just getting their feet wet with mobile, Mr. Moss said that retail will be a key part of mobile in the future.

“In the retail sector, the lines between online and offline in-store purchasing are blurring,” Mr. Moss said.

“The savvy consumer has so much information available at their fingertips, regarding comparative shopping, savings and discounts,” he said.

“While standing in a brick-and-mortar store, consumers can easily research product availability, competitive pricing and applicable coupons or other discounts before making a purchase.”
