Dazbog Coffee goes all out for mobile gift cards

Dazbog Coffee is expanding its mobile marketing program to 21 retail locations in Colorado and Wyoming after kicking off a smaller initiative six months ago.

The coffee retailer is deploying Mocapay’s platform to let consumers participate in mobile promotions and buy and redeem mobile gift cards at selected locations. The effort first launched in November (see story).

“We are using Mocapay to extend another method of payment and communication on up-and-coming events and products,” said Leo Yuffa, chief operating officer of Dazbog, Denver, CO.

Dazbog has stores in six states that serve freshly brewed coffee, tea, roasted coffee beans and specialty drinks. Arabica beans are used for the coffee roasting.

Brew ha-ha
Via the Mocapay service, Dazbog customers can use a patented, one-time-use six-digit code where no personal information is stored on the mobile device or in-store.

Dazbog customers can also buy gift cards by downloading the Mocapay application that is available for the iPhone, Android and BlackBerry devices. They can also mobilize a plastic card, reload or gift a card to a friend or colleague from the mobile phone.

Gift cards are also available online at http://www.mocapay.com.

“With Mocapay marketing, Dazbog is able to grow their text marketing list and push out messages to consumers about new products and specials,” said Doug Dwyre, president of Mocapay.

Dazbog is not the only business using Mocapay’s mobile platform.

The Oxford Club, Spa and Salon is incorporating a mobile marketing and loyalty platform into its initiatives to attract and retain customers.

Smooth Skin Centers and Two Ten Nail, Wax and Dry Bar also tapped Mocapay’s to engage customers (see story).

Green Mill Restaurants Inc. is using Mocapay’s technology for its marketing, commerce and customer relationship management initiatives.

In addition, the company has mobile-enabled its gift and loyalty program and is integrating mobile marketing initiatives (see story).

Beancounting
Dazbog’s Mr. Yuffa claims that the initial response to adding mobile to Dazbog has been positive.

“We are continuing a conversation that is started at the coffee bar and using mobile to stay in touch with customers,” Mr. Yuffa said.

Touching guests in a personal manner is always a challenge for retailers, Mocapay’s Mr. Dwyre said.

“Mobile enables Dazbog to reach their customers easily and with an immediate call to action,” Mr. Dwyre said.

“Because this program is integrated through the POS, Dazbog knows exactly who the customers are and can reach out to them,” he said.

“Having a mobile gift card makes it that much easier for consumers to pay at Dazbog.  We are working on a mobile loyalty program for Dazbog next.”
