Clarification: Safeway has no relationship with Digimarc

An article published March 14 by Mobile Commerce Daily reported that Safeway placed Digimarc-watermarked advertisements within The Oregonian newspaper that let readers scan the ad with their mobile phone to receive a coupon on their device. Safeway has notified Mobile Commerce Daily that it does not have a business relationship with Digimarc, and that Digimarc was not authorized to use the Safeway brand or place The Oregonian advertisement.

The Mobile Commerce Daily reporter who prepared the March 14 article was erroneously led to believe that a business relationship existed between Safeway and Digimarc through marketing collateral created by Digimarc that was presented in an in-person briefing at Mobile Commerce Daily’s office. We regret the confusion.
