Best Buy drives in-store traffic via mobile promotion

August 12, 2011

Best Buy is offering 20 percent off any set of Beats by Dr. Dre headphones when consumers buy an HTC smartphone at any of its locations this weekend.

The initiative is part of a celebration for the new HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre strategic partnership. The promotion is running in-stores only through Aug. 14.

Established in 2006, Beats Electronics is the brainchild of legendary artist and producer Dr. Dre and chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records Jimmy Iovine, who set out to develop a new type of headphone with the capability to reproduce the full spectrum of sound that musical artists and producers hear in professional recording studios.

HTC Corp. is one of the fastest-growing companies in the mobile phone industry.

Recently, HTC invested in audio for mobile devices to attract younger consumers.

HTC is partnering with Beats Electronics LLC to bring high performance sound to HTC phones.

The Taiwanese handset manufacturer has also made an investment in the company.

The two companies will introduce a new line of HTC devices integrated with Beats sound innovations this fall.

Beats is known for its ability to reproduce the full spectrum of sound captured in professional recording studios.

HTC hopes to accelerate its entry into the youth and accessories markets via the partnership.
