AmazonFresh taps iPhone app to encourage grocery shopping

November 3, 2011’s online grocery shopping service AmazonFresh has introduced an iPhone application that lets Seattle iPhone users order produce and other items via their mobile device.

Metia/Seattle is powering the mobile app. The app is available for free download in Apple’s App Store and the service is available throughout Seattle and surrounding suburbs.

The iPhone app joins the existing AmazonFresh Windows and Android mobile apps.

Consumers can order groceries and thousands of other items and schedule deliveries via the app.

With two taps shoppers can use their iPhone’s camera to scan an item’s bar code and automatically add it to their current or future shopping list.

Consumers can view past purchases and view expert picks.

Users can also choose time slots for doorstep and attended home delivery.

The app also lets consumers make changes to their existing open orders that are not yet delivered.

Past efforts
In August, Amazon let consumers in the Seattle market shop for fresh produce and get it delivered to their home via a new Android application (see story).

The company has been gradually showing that mobile plans an integral role in its overall strategy.

More consumers are turning to their mobile devices to make purchases whether for clothing, jewelry or groceries.
