Amazon lets consumers shop produce via Android app

The company rolled out the AmazonFresh app to let consumers shop complete grocery and selected Amazon.com aisles. The app is available for free download in Google’s Android Market.

“The emergence of smartphones and improved network speeds has made making purchases through a mobile phone easier than ever,” said Doug Herrington, vice president of consumables at Amazon.

“We are excited to bring to our customers the added convenience of shopping for groceries wherever they may be,” he said.

“The Android app provides much of the same functionality as the AmazonFresh Web site, plus new features such as the ability to add items to your cart by scanning a bar code of a product.”

Grocery shopping
Amazon’s Amazon Fresh app lets consumers shop for fresh produce and selected Amazon.com aisles.

Consumers can choose time slots for doorstep and attended home delivery.

Additionally, users can add items from their past purchases for a more seamless shopping experience.

“We are getting the word out about this in a variety of ways,” Mr. Herrington said. “AmazonFresh’s mobile applications and mobile site are featured on our Web site, as well as in the Amazon Appstore for Android.

“We are also in contact with customers who have expressed interest in our mobile shopping channels,” he said.

Features
The app features a bar code search function that lets consumers scan their favorite items to quickly add them to their cart.

The My Quicklist feature helps consumers with their weekly shopping lists or recipes.

“One of our main goals is to deliver convenience to our customers by saving customers a trip to the store,” Mr. Herrington said.

“Mobile extends that value proposition by allowing customers a quick, easy way to add items on the go,” he said.
