The company claims that Kindle for Windows Phone 7 is the first major ebook application available for Windows Phone 7. The application is free for download in Windows Phone Marketplace.

“With Kindle books you never have to worry about what to do if you change devices or platforms,” said Kinley Campbell, spokeswoman for Amazon.com, Seattle. “Our free Buy Once, Read Everywhere apps make it easy for you to read your books on any device you choose – your Kindle, Kindle 3G, Kindle DX, iPad, iPhone, PC, Mac, BlackBerry, Android-based device, and now your Windows Phone 7-based device.

“Amazon’s Whispersync technology lets you read and sync your library, bookmarks, notes, and highlights on the most popular devices and platforms,” she said. “Read on your Kindle, read on your tablet, read on your phone. We’ll keep track of your last page read, and make it easy.”

Amazon.com offers millions of new, refurbished and used items in categories such as books, movies, music and games, digital downloads, electronics, home and apparel.

Mobile features
The application includes new features such as personalized recommendations integrated in the Kindle home screen and the ability to send book recommendations to a friend with leaving the application.

Users can access more than 775,000 books in the U.S. Kindle Store and the Worry-Free Archive feature automatically backs up their Kindle library on Amazon.

“We want customers to have the convenience and flexibility to read their books on any device they choose, even if they don’t have their Kindle with them or don’t yet own a Kindle,” Ms. Campbell said. “With Kindle books, you can read for a few minutes on your Windows Phone 7 while you’re in line at a grocery store, and then pick up on your Kindle where you left off when you get home.”

Shopping experience
Other features of the Windows Phone 7 application include an integrated shopping experience that lets users shop without leaving the app and the ability to customize the reading with five different font sizes and three background color options.

The Kindle application is also available on iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, BlackBerry and Android-based devices.

Recently, Amazon launched a developer portal for its Android application store that lets developers submit their applications when the store debuts later this year.

“We’re always looking for ways to innovate on behalf of our customers,” Ms. Campbell said.
