AIB simplifies banking process with mobile-optimized site

AIB has introduced a mobile site that lets its tech-savvy customers stay on top of their financial needs.

According to the company, more than 650,000 of its customers actively use the AIB Internet banking and the financial institution has seen significant growth in the number of customers accessing their accounts via their smartphones. AIB decided to roll out a mobile banking site to stay on top of customers’ needs.

The mobile site lets AIB mobile banking customers view their account balances, mini statements and recent transactions.

Consumers can also make payments to their own accounts, other accounts in the Republic of Irelend, utility bills and credit cards.

The mobile site was developed in-house by a specialist team at AIB.

Additionally, the company is looking to launch iPhone and Android applications in the near future.

AIB is also rolling out a multimedia communications campaign to support this initiative. Online and social media marketing will be a key part of this campaign.

Banking success
Mobile banking is essential for both consumers and financial institutions.

Consumers are actively performing various actions on their mobile devices and banks such as Chase, Citi and Capital One are already reaping the benefits.

Last year, Chase introduced a new mobile banking service to help consumers manage their accounts and avoid fees.

Via the mobile service, customers can opt-in to receive a text message the moment their checking account balance falls below a pre-selected amount and then directly transfer funds by sending a reply (see story).

Recently, Citibank played up the iPad’s tablet-specific features with a new user interface that simplifies the banking process for consumers and enhances the company’s goal to be on every platform.

Consumers can check balances, control their cash flow, pay bills, transfer funds, access rewards and find nearby Citibank ATMs and branches via the iPad app (see story).
