8coupons relies on augmented reality-powered app to deliver local deals

8coupons is letting consumers browse from more than 500,000 local deals via an augmented reality-enabled iPhone application.

The augmented reality feature lets users find deals closest to them. The application is available for free download in Apple’s App Store.

“The new 8coupons app makes it easy to find great deals while you are out and about,” said Matthew Moskowitz, director of marketing communications at 8coupons Inc., New York.

“When you whip out your iPhone, the GPS will know exactly where you are and show you all the deals around you,” he said. “You really won’t need any other coupon app because we aggregate content from all of them.

“You can see all deals in either a map view, a list view or in an augmented reality view, which we call iDeals.”

8coupons’ network of more than 500,000 live, geo-targeted deals come from partners such as Valpak, Restaurant.com, Groupon, Living Social and 2,000 other sources.

Mobile specials
Consumers can locate stores nearby that are offering specials by opening the app, waving the device in the air and seeing all the hidden deals in that particular area.

The app uses augmented reality

Additionally, consumers can use the map or list feature to narrow down the deals they want to see.

“Mobile is a natural fit for us,” Mr. Moskowitz said. “People’s lives are unpredictable and sometimes it is hard to know your plan before you leave the house.

“If you have the 8coupons app, you can find deal information on the fly without having to prepare,” he said. “Just whip out your iPhone wherever you are now and get all the great deals.”

Featured deals
The application offers local and national offers and lets consumers and businesses upload deals for free onto the application.

In addition, the app filters deals by category such as spa or restaurant.

The company is looking to expand to other platforms in the near future.

“We will be adding Android in the upcoming months,” Mr. Moskowitz said.
